Post Office, Thorney
Client:
Mr & Mrs Taylor
Project:
Conversion of an existing Post Office back to its original use as a dwelling.
Constraints:
Conservation area, Grade Ii Listed, restricted access
The existing building is grade II listed and on the local council building of interest. The building converted circa 1963 as a Post Office to take advantage of the once retail area of the village. Since it opened shopping habits have altered and the Post Office contracts made smaller Post Office no longer finically viable to continue.
The conversion back to a dwelling included reinstating its original features hidden by hard board and lighting. All beams and chimney alcoves reveled to show the buildings character. Modern insulation, fire prevention and section measures sympathetically installed and the structure reinforced with new timbers.
